The Guts, and in particular the Small Intestine, is not just the second site of higher concentration of neurons (second only to the Brain and higher then the spinal cord), but it's also the site of the main component of the Immune System and of the Gut Associated Lymphoid Tissue (GALT). Quite all allergies and chronic immune diseases has a relationship with an imbalance of the Intestines. Hippocrates used to say: “the roots of all diseases sits in the Guts”.

Another very important function of the Guts is the Gastroenteropancreatic System (GEP), that refers to the synthesis and release of hormones and neurotransmitters. The event that finally updated the Guts to the level of a complete Brain was the discovery that 95% of Serotonin, a very important Brain's neurotransmitter, is produced by the Small Intestine. It has been discovered that the GEP System produces nearly 50 different hormones and neurotransmitters that acts locally but also systemically.

The student will also how to test the different Enzymatic Factors, that are fundamental for a proper digestion and the different Endotoxines, those substances produced by the metabolism.

Time will be dedicated to work on the Enteric Nervous System and, consequently, on the Motility that is fundamental for a correct Gut’s function. Many people has an altered motility that will cause constipation or dysentery. We will study different nutrition and sets of acupressure points for the different causes of Constipation (5 energetic patterns) and Diarrhea (7 energetic patterns).

The topics of this class are:

  • the Gut-Brain Axis,
  • the Gut’s Anatomy, the different layers of the gut;
  • the Enteric Nervous System,
  • the Gut’s Endocrine System: the Gastroenteropancreatic System (GEP);
  • the Gut’s Immune System: the Gut Associated Lymphoid Tissue (GALT);
  • Gut Motility;
  • Gut’s water absorption;
  • Enzymatic Factors;
  • Endotoxins;
  • Constipation and Diarrhea.
